Crossville To Sue Owners Of Inn Of The Cumberlands

Crossville City Council members have voted to file a lawsuit against the owners of the Inn of the Cumberlands.

The owners have been given several chances to pay off taxes on the property, which was closed and condemned by the city nearly two years ago.

City Attorney Will Ridley said the lawsuit would seek to demolish the property.

“Be aware up front, that this will not be a property that we make our money back on,” Ridley said. “This will be a property that the city is paying to demolish and we will likely not recover those funds because there is so much taxes owed to the city and county that will have to be paid first, which are priority liens.”

Ridley said about $60,000 to $70,000 in back taxes is owed on the property and demolition of the building would cost about $100,000.

The city condemned the inn nearly two years ago after the owners failed to address at least 15 code violations.
