Crossville Approves Measure Seeking More Council Members

Crossville city council members voted last night to change the city charter in order to add more members to the city council.

The measure approved last night, would allow for seven members to serve on the council. Currently, the city council has five members.

“I personally feel like it would give an opportunity for broader representation of our city,” Councilwoman Pamela Harris said. “I feel like it would open the door for more women who feel qualified to run for election.”

A resolution will now be drafted and sent to the General Assembly to get their approval. If approved by lawmakers, the city council will have to approve the resolution again by a 3/4 vote. If that happens, the charter change goes into effect in 2018.
