Cookeville To Purchase Land For Dogwood Park Expansion

The Cookeville City Council approved Thursday nigh a purchase agreement to acquire 1.16 acres of land at 103 and 117 East First Street for the purpose of expanding Dogwood Park.

“I think this is a wonderful opportunity to expand Dogwood Park going from Broad to First. This will give leisure services an opportunity to expand parking or maybe make an event area out of that,” City Councilman Jim Woodford said. “It’s become the pride of Cookeville and anything we can add to its luster is a benefit to the city and the citizens that live here.”

The purchase price total $625,000 or approximately $12.45 per square foot.

“We don’t really have any ideas on what to do with it yet, but we know it’s exciting,” Vice Mayor Larry Epps said. “We would like to hear from the public to see what they would prefer.”

The city hopes to close on the property by February 28th, 2018.
