Burton Branch Road Improvement Project Nearing Completion

The Burton Branch Road project in Algood is nearing completion.

Mayor Kirk Dyer said getting the improvements to the road completed has taken a long time.

“I’m glad that the pavement is on Burton Branch Road. In case you don’t know, that project began as a signed agreement in 2009 for the city of Algood,” Dyer said. “Definitely an improvement. Anyone that’s ever drove through it before knows how rough it was and narrow it was. That problem has been alleviated.”

The road improvement was bid out in 2016 for a total cost of $2.12 million. The project straighten a curve along the half-mile section of road and added three lanes, including a turn lane.

“The improvement is going to be a huge benefit for the truck traffic and distributors in that area,” City Administrator Keith Morrison said.

Morrison said a few minor projects still need to be completed before the road improvements are officially finished.
